A US truck driver has been labelled 'James Bond' after he used an unusual gadget to dodge a $65 toll to cross into New York City.
The stunt comes after US truck drivers have complained about inflated toll charges, which are set to increase to $105 for a five-axle truck by 2016.
Police said the trucker, Nelson Vaquiz, 36, had run a cable from the vehicle down to the bumper of the truck. When the cord was pulled, the license plate would flip up and become unreadable to cameras. Vaquiz also bent his back license plate, in order to further obscure the view. Without a clear shot of the license plate, authorities cannot fine a truck for using the EZ-Pass lanes without a valid tag.
However, the outcome of the incident did not continue in the style of 007. In an attempt showcase the seriousness of his act US authorities charged Mr Vasquiz with theft of service, eluding arrest and possession of burglar tools.
Truckers looking for a legitimate gadget for their vehicle may wish to invest in a Truckmate gps sat nav for trucks.
